Uncle Fatih's Pizza

Every time we pass by the Broadway Skytrain station on Commercial Drive, a lineup forms outside the barely visible storefront at Uncle Fatih’s pizza on the Northwest corner of the intersection.

Bookended by construction on one side and an insanely crowded Skytrain junction on the other, Uncle Fatih’s Pizza is easily lost among the sea of squeegee kids, hippies, foreign students and commuters. But on any given day, the always faithful can be found lining up for cheap slices of pizza.

Case and I ordered two slices of pizza and a can of coke for $4, which is quite possibly one of the most unbeatable deals in town. We had one slice of vegetarian which was heaped with chunks of tomato, red pepper, artichoke, spinach, olives and whatever else they could cram on there. Our second slice was a pesto layered with cheese and drizzled with pesto sauce. Uncle Fatih’s is generous with toppings and stingy with the dough — which is just the way we like it.

Prepare to take your pizza to go (everyone else does) — there’s barely any seating inside and the facilities aren’t exactly Michelin star material. But for $4, this meal is cheaper — and more enjoyable — than a 3 Zone transit ride from Downtown Vancouver to Surrey.

Perfect for: a tasty way to kill time while waiting for your transfer.
