Argo Cafe is little diner hidden away in the industrial area on Ontario Street. They serve a pretty wide variety of food, from good old greasy spoon classics to pastas, curry, fish and Chinese food — all with friendly smiles and an upbeat attitude.
Argo is tiny. Typical of diner booth style cafes, the menu is handwritten on chalkboards on either side of the restaurant walls. You order from there, and if you have any questions, the staff are happy to answer.

We both ordered burgers. One with cheese, mushrooms and fries, the other with just cheese. Plus two cups of caffeine. Surprisingly, our burgers included soup or salad, we opted for the soup of the day — borscht. The burgers were decent and not as greasy as other diners we’ve been to: thick, freshly made beef patties with tomatoes, lettuce, red onions, pickles and chili mayo, sandwiched in a nicely toasted bun. The skinny fries were simply okay.

Our bill including taxes and tips came to just under $19, which is a good deal, but a bit pricer than Bon’s off Broadway. However, we’re not complaining. Argo is the place to go if you happen to be in the area and looking for cheap eats. Just make sure to bring cash and show up on a weekeday; they close on the weekends.
Perfect For: Greasy spooning just outside of Downtown on a weekday.
