BreakfastTwo Chefs and a Table
!Since the original posting of this article, Two Chefs and a Table has closed. A Richmond location (that we have not reviewed) is still in operation.
It sounds like an Internet meme, but Two Chefs and a Table is a French Restaurant that sits on the corner of Alexander and Gore at the edge of Gastown. The rustic, French cottage exterior and purposefully scattered foliage makes the restaurant an oasis on an island in a sea of disheveled buildings and shopping cart jockeys.
During the daytime, however, the restaurant is quaint and inviting from the outside with large picture windows that allow you to peer in. Inside, the open space dining room feels like the kitchen of a large, countryside bed and breakfast. Despite the open space, the seating is a collection of communal tables and really cramped seating.

The one sheet menu for brunch consists of classic dishes with modern twists and predictable local adaptions like smoked salmon benedicts. We started with coffee, which arrived appropriately in an oversized French press; beautiful.
Case ordered the crab benedict: fresh, nicely seasoned, shredded crab meat topped with gently poached eggs and smothered in hollandaise served on a crustier than we liked english muffin. Smashed, pan fried potatoes which tasted better than it looked, accompanied the benedict.
I had a Polderside omelet: roasted chicken, spinach, tomato and brie stuffed into a fluffy egg blanket. It was served with a side of toast and a very nice homemade jam.
(Top to bottom: 1. Caffeine. 2. Crab Eggs Benedict.)
The seating was tight, the service on and off (depending on which server arrived at our table), and the food was good, but nothing particularly outstanding (save the jam). Our meal came to a palatable $30 for two including taxes and tips.
Perfect for: Countryside brunch in the city.
