BreakfastHappy Valley Seafood Restaurant
[rating:2]
Happy Valley Seafood Restaurant on Lougheed Highway in Vancouver deems to bring happiness by serving quality dim sum in large portions.
The restaurant is spacious with a good amount of light beaming in from the wall to ceiling windows. Tables are nicely spread apart with no cramping and squeezing in to get by. Dim sum is ordered by pencil and paper.
(Top to bottom: 1. Steamed Spare Ribs with Pumpkin. 2. Â Shrimp and Leek Dumpling.)
We started off with spareribs and pumpkin: big meaty pieces of meat which was nice, but was not marinated long enough for the flavours to sink in. Next, Guang Dong style dumplings and shrimp and leek dumplings. The filling for both steamed dumplings were similar tasting. The outer skin was thick and chewy, which meant we often finished the filling and left the skin.
The beef rice rolls, however, were neat, thinly wrapped and enjoyable to eat. Soaked and browned to a nice caramelized color, the beef tripe and tendons were tasty, seasoned with a generous amount of garlic. The beef tripe tasted fresh and were cut into perfect bite size pieces.

Lastly, the egg tarts. The egg tarts looked appetizing, but unfortunately fell terribly flat. They were extremely greasy and left us both feeling queasy for the rest of the day.
Our bill including taxes and tips came to just under $28, which is neither the cheapest nor most expensive dim sum in town. The food at Happy Valley was mediocre, good portions and decent flavours for half the dishes, but our last dish simply didn’t sit well with us (literally).
Perfect for: Dining at your discretion.
