Out of TownPaseo (Fremont)
[rating:4]
Paseo is a quaint Caribbean restaurant in the Fremont area of North Seattle that dishes out wicked sandwiches out of a tiny little shack. They’re known especially for their Cuban Roast — a slow roasted pork shoulder sandwiched inside a crusty bun.
Paseo’s space is small with very little room to either eat in or line up. The menu is out on the front along with take out containers and some old school plates you’d expect to see at a Chinese restaurant. They serve a variety of dishes: salads, soups and entrees which all look delicious and tempting, but we (like most everyone else) are here for their sandwiches.
(Above: Paseo’s kitchen space is real tight.)
Tre and I shared the Cuban Roast sandwich: slow roasted pork shoulder bathed in Paseo’s own marinade on a toasted baguette slathered with aioli and finished with cilantro, pickled jalapenos, romaine lettuce and caramelized onions. The sandwich was an absolute mess to eat, dripping with aioli and marinade — and it was an absolute pleasure to enjoy: the succulent roast, complimented by generous fixings that finishes with a satisfying crunch from the baguette with each bite.
Our bill including taxes and tip came to just under $11, a fantastic deal considering our sandwich was so good and enough for two (or one, if you happen to be really hungry). If you’re ever in the Seattle area, or just feel like going on a short road trip, head down to Paseo’s. Heck, go no now if you can. Just leave the plastic at home, they’re a cash only joint, and they’re closed Sundays & Mondays so start that journey on a Tuesday.
Perfect for: A super sandwich with Cuban flare.
