Moccia

Moccia Italian Meat Market on Hastings offers a nice selection of tasty Italian meats and deliver it all with rock star service.

Upon entering, we were greeted by the owners of Moccia Italian Meat Market with a great big smile and hello. They’re very passionate about their meats and their love for it clearly shows. We were offered generous samples of prosciutto to try and munched on them while browsing the store. In addition to cured meats, Moccia Italian Meat Market also offers frozen homemade sausages, meatballs, pastas and a small selection of cheese all at reasonable prices.

(Clockwise: 1. What the heck is this thing? 2. Cured meats and sausages. 3. Italian cheeses)

Tre and I walked out with a small bag of meats: Two kinds of prosciutto. One classic Italian prosciutto and the other made in house — both were delicious. The house prosciutto was subtle, sweet with a slightly crispier and caramelized texture. The classic Italian Prosciutto had a stronger flavour and was saltier, which is perfect in sandwiches. We also bought a box of Italian breakfast sausages. They were well seasoned and delicious, and paired well with our eggs the next morning. We could see and taste the fresh herbs that were mixed in with the pork. Everything at Moccia Italian Meat Market is freshly made from local animals with no growth hormones and no antibiotics added. There are no preservatives, which also means no bad nitrites!

(Top to bottom: 1. & 2. The prosciutto works well with roasted red pepper, basil and dijon mustard on some nice Italian bread.)

The cured meats at Moccia are good, and so are the prices and service. More wine, cheese and meats anyone? Ah, life is good!

Perfect for: Snacks, picnics and wine and cheese parties.
